Tina

Our law review is using SafeAssign via their Blackboard Law Review organization for plagiarism and similarity detector software. I was just recently working with our Associate Director for Library Operations and our law review EiC on access via their Blackboard organization.

Regards,

Gary

Subject: [teknoids] Journals & Plagiarism Detection Software

Hi all,

I've looked through the last couple years of emails, and I hadn't seen this specific use case addressed so one of our journal EICs asked me to inquire with you all. They are considering integrating a plagiarism / similarity detector into their student note process, primarily as a way to identify potentially problematic papers which would then undergo extensive further review by the editors before any determinations of plagiarism were made. We are working with specialists on our campus to determine pros and cons and whether it will suit the journal's needs. However, this EIC has two questions for you all:

  1. Do you all know if journals/law reviews at your schools incorporate plagiarism / similarity detection software into their student note process? I see that at least some other schools use it for classes, but we were curious as to its use in journals.

  1. If so, what are they using? We have Canvas as our LMS, and so we have access to Turnitin, but we are aware there are others (Grammarly, etc.). It seems like Turnitin's parent company has somewhat of a corner on the academic market, but we were curious if anyone had used another product and people's experiences with it.

We would appreciate any insight you all have.
Thanks,
Tina
