Position:  Director of Information Technology

California Western School of Law (CWSL) seeks a talented and inspirational leader for the position of Director of Information Technology.  The Director plans, implements, and sustains a comprehensive information and technology environment including instructional design and desktop support for the short and long term goals of the academic, administrative and online technology needs. CWSL is in the beginning phases of an exciting multi-year implementation of entirely new ERP systems.  This will include selection, testing, implementing, and optimization of core financial, HR, and student information systems, as well as the same for other key ancillary functions, including calendaring, CMS, digital signatures, and other systems in use by various departments.  The Director will work closely with the IT Steering Committee and the project manager to establish and coordinate priorities and manage precious human and capital resources throughout the course of implementing these new systems.

Summary Description:  The Director develops and implements strategic plans for continuous expansion and improvement of information and technology services to support growth in programs.  The Director provides managerial direction for planning, goal setting, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and accountability for all areas of information and technology services.

The Director will have overall responsibility for developing and leading the technology strategy planning efforts for the Information Technology department and ensuring that IT programs and initiatives align to enterprise objectives and strategies; manage IT annual capital budgets, define metrics based on overall business objectives to ensure the integrity, reliability, security, and performance of information and communication systems; direct development and execution of an enterprise-wide, information security plan that protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the company's data and servers; establish IT departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures, adjusting IT standards and technologies to meet a changing technical landscape and more.

The Director is a leader that has demonstrated success throughout their career and can build teams and solutions effectively.  Responsible for working with faculty and staff to develop and communicate the status of technology plans, initiatives, and for promoting and delivering quality service to the faculty, staff and students.

About the School:  California Western School of Law is a not-for-profit, independent law school located in downtown San Diego, with approximately 800 students. San Diego's oldest law school, CWSL was accredited by the American Bar Association in 1962 and has been a member of the Association of American Law Schools since 1967. In addition to its strong JD and LLM programs, California Western offers dual and joint degrees with UC San Diego and San Diego State University and administers numerous clinical programs including the California Innocence Project, Community Law Project, and several programs focused on improving the rule of law in Latin America.

About the Department:  The IT department has a staff of five and reports to the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services. The department consist of two help desk technicians, a software developer, a network technician, and an associate director/network administrator.  In addition, IT works closely with the web developer, web content/UX designer, and Director of Marketing.  The IT team plays a key supporting role in facilitating much of the work of the Educational Technology team, which includes classroom technology, and the student computing lab.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required.  At least six to eight years of progressively responsible experience in a high pace, deadline driven IT position.  Demonstrated experience managing IT personnel, strategic planning, and enterprise network administration.  Must be a strategic thinker, able to lead a technical team, understand network integration and software development lifecycle. Experience administering a Windows-based enterprise network environment required.  Thorough understanding of data exchange and database management in a multi-database environment is required.  Thorough understanding of PC-based networking and all widely used applications is required.  Must possess a commitment to continuing education, following developing trends in technology and its implementation in an academic environment.  Must be organized and involved in all aspects of technology planning and implementation. Effective time management skills, organizational skills, analytical and problem solving ability, strong process orientation, project management skills and flexibility.  Proficient at managing multiple priorities and accomplishing simultaneous demands while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.  Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills essential.  Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage a variety of tasks with the appropriate level of urgency.
