OMG that's funny. I dressed up as a Ghostbuster for Halloween in 1984. I duct-taped a boom box (playing the Ghostbuster song) to a vacuum cleaner and taped three flashlights around the nozzle. It was (say it with me...) AWESOME.

Soooooo.

600 free pages valued at $.05 per page = $30. Times three years of law school = $90. Ergo, buy everyone a Kindle (http://cca.li/bd) when they arrive and send all print jobs to PDF and email it to their Kindle.

Print is dead. Deal with it. ;-)

Of course I must jump in on this one...
We had Westlaw run a report of the number of prints on our three West printers and it was astonishing to me. Since I'm sure Lexis will follow suit and pull their printers too, I'm going to start discussions with the relevant parties (SBA, the Dean, etc) about our options. Our students pay a technology fee which gives them 600-pages of printing per semester with all clinic, research assistant, journals, and moot court jobs waived. Anything above that is paid at $.05/page. We are pretty firm about not crediting Westlaw/Lexis jobs that were printed on their printers unless the printers are down. I've talked to the faculty teaching legal research and they stress not printing every page when doing research but it happens.
My guess is that we'll raise the tech fee enough to cover the additional costs of losing the Westlaw printers but that decision hasn't been made.

This is not a discussion about student printing. Well actually it IS about student printing, but it's not a discussion.

In light of the latest news from Westlaw-to the effect that we're entering the last year of free printing to their printers for students-there will likely be some interest in seeing whether or how law schools are responding with their own free printing policies. For that reason we're very interested in getting up-to-date policy information for the Richmond-hosted law school printing policy page (http://law.richmond.edu/people/initiatives/printsurvey.html). If you have updated prices and free printing policies please email Joyce Janto jjanto at richmond.edu<mailto:jjanto at richmond.edu>.
