Does anyone have video conferencing equipment that I can call? It needs to
be IP based and have a public IP address.

Hi Jim,
We have a student listserv that is used for all official law school
announcements. It's a moderated list and student org events are allowed to
be posted.
However, we've had students complain that they do not want to receive those
announcements so I've asked the Student Affairs committee to consider having
a list exclusively for student org announcements. It would be an opt-out
list (unlike the students listserv). If nothing else, it allows students to
set up filters for those events. However, the student orgs are not crazy
about the idea as they are afraid it will impact attendance.

Do any schools ban or limit student organizations from sending email about
upcoming events to the rest of the student body?

We used to allow the orgs to send email, but the student body would complain
about all the email from the student orgs clogging their inboxes. Last year
we banned the student orgs from sending email to the student body and
instead have instituted a message board for all the orgs. Now the orgs are
complaining that they are not getting enough
attendance at their functions.

What have others done in similar situatuions?

We established an email account for this purpose Lawinfo at law.arizona.edu.
The account is managed by one of the staff who manages all other "community
related" activities such as community service, etc. Student organizations
send their announcements to her and she posts them on Lawinfo. This method
has been working very well foe about 3 years now. thanks

We tried the listserv here and just as you said, the student orgs were not
happy because so many people opted out.
